Barcelona DESTINATIONS Spain Where I eat and chill

Barcelona: The Espai Joliu in Poblenou, a very unique plants and coffee-shop

My first week in Barcelona is already over! With quite a lot of kilometers walked, I spotted a few great places and especially in the Poblenou borough. Not the most touristic one, it’s a bit outside of the city center and looks like an abandoned place at first sight, but it actually hides the most original place I saw so far in the city.

It’s the Espai Joliu, a coffee-shop, ceramic workshop and plants store.

Many vegan, gluten-free options, but also delicious avocado toasts! The atmosphere in this place was very unique, the decoration is a mix of recycled objects and vintage ones, and all these plants make you feel like you are in a greenhouse, nice discovery!

No china here, but a glass jar as a cup, why not!

After breakfast at Espai Joliu, we headed to the cemetery of Poblenou, I know it sounds weird but we wanted to see this statue “the kiss of death” sawn on Instagram by my co-explorer friend in Barcelona. Our hunt for this statue turned into a game as we had to spot first an angel statue that was visible on the background of the photo, and a round  construction near by, that could led us to the statue.

This is the famous statue that turns us into treasure hunters!

After that, we wanted to go to the beach, Barcelona is boarded with different beaches, and the one in Poblenou is quieter that the one in the center, la Barceloneta. This is also the reason why I chose Barcelona, because of the beach right in the city center.

You need to keep your eyes open in Barcelona, because there is a thousand hidden details, like this wall made from a mozaic of photos, by the catalan artist Joan Fontcuberta. The photos were picked from the journal El Periodico, with the following question ” What does freedom mean to you?” From the photos send by people, the giant kiss was made by the artist.

Already a week over in Barcelona, except from exploring, I spent a lot of time settling, getting my new room feels like home, because this is so important even if you are travelling a lot and moving places.
