A few days ago, one of my friends came to Barcelona, he’s a plants lover and he didn’t particularly want to see the usual touristic places of the city. So we started a green tour of Barcelona, with all the places I know where we could see plants, cactus, tropical trees, etc. and there is plenty to see in Barcelona as for plants!
Visit the green side of the city
Barcelona can be seen in a million different ways, depending on if you like museums, sport, shopping, culture… Today, I want to bring you with me in a tour where plants are the main attraction, discovering original places for all plants lovers, including me!
Oh and I forgot, but all the places have free entrance, so it’s green and budget friendly, thank me later!
My 4 favorite places for a Barcelona Green tour:
The Mossèn Costa i Llobera cactus park
Not everyone knows about this park, it’s located in Monjuic, at the end of the Miramar hotel alley. It’s a wonderful garden, in front of the sea and facing the hill on the other side.
Palm trees, thousands of cactus and tropical plants are sitting together, it’s one of my favorite places in Barcelona. There you feel like in a different place, in a different country, it’s very chilled also because it’s never crowded. You may see some bloggers and fashion designers doing their photoshoot there, as it’s so special. You may want to stay for hours, but one or two hours are more than enough to walk around and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere.

The house of plants in the Born
I could have put the entire neighborhood of the Born on this article, as you will certainly notice there lots of nice balconies loaded with plants, in the small and narrow streets. It’s quite common in Barcelona to put a lot of plants on your balcony, but the award goes to the Born’s inhabitants, be prepared to walk with your chin up to admire them all! But the gem is this place we call the house of plants, which is actually a private home, where the owners decorate the doorway with a lot of plants, making it really gorgeous.
An article was published about this house in the Spanish newspaper El Periódico, the owners say that they see with amusement a lot of visitors taking pictures of their doorway ! Feel free to go and admire their pretty house, but keep in mind that this is a private home, even if according to the article in El Periódico, the owners seem to be pleased with their success!
The Umbracle, the Ciutadella Park’s greenhouse
You certainly know the Ciutadella Park, but you may have not entered the beautiful greenhouse inside the park. This lush building made of glass is shelter of thousands of tropical plants, giant monsteras, huge banana trees and many more.
30 minutes is enough to visit the greenhouse, but if, like us, you take pictures of every plant, you want to chill and sit there, you may not see time flying!
The Umbracle, on the same alley than the Castell dels Tres Dragons.
Espai Joliu, a concept store and coffeeshop with plants and cactus
In the (not to green) area of Poblenou, you will find a green little gem that I like a lot, it’s the Espai Joliu, a coffeeshop and concept-store.
If you want to purchase a few plants, nice ceramics, or lovely illustrations made by local artists, or just stop and have a coffee or a piece of cake (vegan friendly if I correctly remember) in a lovely place you will not be disappointed!
Espai Joliu is one of these very creative spaces that are popping in Barcelona, and especially in Poblenou, which is changing a lot lately.

I hope my Barcelona green tour inspired you, if you know other original places where we can see plants, please share in the comments!
